Mergers & Acqhisitions

@melft tweeted a link a few days back to a post by a person delighted to discover that a word he launched some years back has now been used by the New York Times.

The linguistic numismatist is Rex Hammock and the word he has coined is "acqhire." It signifies:

"big tech companies purchasing small companies, primarily as a talent recruitment strategy with a sometimes significant signing bonus (and, if certain conditions are met, the signing bonus may be treated in a way that will subject it to capital gains taxes (15%) rather than as ordinary income)."

The post goes on to describe the goggling Rex did to verify his blogging as the provenance of M&A's newest "official" term. Fun stuff!
